Expanding export trade requires accurate assessment of the credit risk involved with exports. The
inability to easily assess the risk leads to reluctance of taking on new clients or markets. It is often
difficult to obtain export financing from banks because they are also unable to provide accurate
estimates. They usually require the exporter to pledge one hundred percent of the financing with real
property security or relinquish a portion of their balance sheet strength. If banks, with all their
resources, cannot accurately assess export credit risk, how is an exporter going to understand their own
credit risk.
Luckily, in 2002, David Johns started working on a program to assist exporters with understanding
these risks. Developed with Sweeney Research Pty Ltd, it was not finalized for the market until 2004.
Because of their joint effort and great amount of time spent perfecting it, the program has been able to
meet a large variety of needs amongst exporters.
David has over 35 years managerial experience in Australia's major trading banks, culminating as State
Manager and International Trade and Finance NSW for National Australian Bank. He has a Masters
Degree in Applied Finance from Macquarie University, Sydney. He's also a Fellow of the Australian
Institute of Bankers and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Export.
